The Balti Triangle PDF Print E-mail

Increasingly being mentioned in the same breath as Bermuda, the BALTI TRIANGLE now has an additional twist on an old Barry Manilow favourite....

With over 50 restaurants crammed into a mile and a half, this bit of the Sparkbrook area in Birmingham has affectionately been referred to as "The Balti Triangle".

It has undergone numerous transformations in naming. Starting with the 80's as 'Apna Town' (translates from Hindi to "Our Town") to the "Curry Belt" and subsequently "Balti Belt" (90's). The term Balti Triangle has since been adopted since 2001 as this best represents the 3 main roads making the Triangle of Balti restaurants (Ladypool Rd, Stoney Lane and Stratford Rd within Sparkbrook, Birmingham).

Al Frash has been considered one of the pioneers of the cuisine and continue to develop and delight those visiting the famous Balti Triangle. We have also developed and freely distribute the BALTI TRIANGLE LOGO (3 chillies arranged as triangle as on our Home Page).... so watch out for it. If you would like to use the logo, please contact us via the "Book a Table" section of the site.

"Hovering high above its contemporaries, Al Frash aims to see the 'bigger picture' in promoting the area for its uniqueness.... an environment where you can get Britains favourite Balti cuisine, dazzling Indian jewellary, exotic fruits and vegetables and of course Bollywood merchandise - all within a 10minute walk." - UK Food&Drink Guide 2008

Our thanks for Vopra C for his wonderful rendition of Barry Manilows famous "Bermuda Triangle" song below, given that "special" Balti Triangle twist.....

We decide to eat away
And have some fun
Book a taxi and catch a taxi
For two hours having fun
She says, "Solihull’s too expensive."
I say, "Sparkbrook isn't bad."
She says, "I'd love to see Sparkbrook."
And I say, "Woman, are you mad!"

Balti Triangle It makes hunger disappear
Balti Triangle always keep near
But she Doesn't see my angle
And she thinks I'm being dumb
So Balti Triangle
Here we come!

Lying with my woman on The Sparkbrook sand
I look up and see her with
A stranger, hand in hand
I see her sitting on his ludoo
I see them going for a murray
And when I run to find my woman
I find her running after an Al Frash curry

Balti Triangle
Makes my woman cheer
Balti Triangle Don't always keep near
Looking At it from my angle
Do you see why I'm so glad
Balti Triangle never bad!

Lying lost and lonely on
The island sand,
When a lovely stranger says
Hello and takes my hand
And soon she's sitting on my ludoo
And then we're going to Al Frash
When I say, "what about your boyfriend?"
She turns and gets out some cash

Balti Triangle It makes people cheer
Balti Triangle always stay near
But look At it from my angle
And you'll see what I'm so glad
Now Balti Triangle Never ever bad!
